In a devastating incident, five individuals working as billboard installers lost their lives due to electrocution. Additionally, several others suffered severe injuries after a metal signpost they were installing came into contact with a high tension wire at the Rumuosi area along the East West Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

   Five Electrocuted, Four Hospitalized During Billboard Installation; Police Initiate InvestigationA heart-wrenching incident unfolded on Monday at the Obiri-Ikwerre region of Rumuosi in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, where five individuals lost their lives due to electrocution while attempting to erect a billboard. Additionally, four others sustained life-threatening burns and are currently struggling for survival at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, where they were swiftly taken for medical care.According to reports, the billboard, a substantial outdoor advertisement structure with a metal framework, unintentionally made contact with a high-tension cable, leading to the ignition of sparks.The nine individuals involved were in the process of hoisting the substantial structure when its metal component unexpectedly touched the cable, resulting in the immediate transmission of an electric current.Regrettably, this electric surge claimed the lives of five individuals, while another four are fighting for their lives in a critical condition.The victims were reportedly independent entrepreneurs who had been contracted to install the billboard for a contemporary church.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, expressed her sorrow and labeled the situation as unfortunate. She conveyed, “Yes, we are aware of the incident. It is indeed a very unfortunate occurrence. Our investigation is ongoing to determine the exact chain of events.”
